Project overview

We were commissioned to design and furnish several key spaces within a prestigious property at 3 Robert Street. The building, designed by famed architect Robert Adam, boasts stunning views of the Thames and was once home to Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie. Our task was to create a functional, high-end commercial space that would honour the building's significant history.

The design problem

The client's brief was to create furniture that felt 'timeless and sophisticated... but understated.' Beyond aesthetics, the primary challenge was operational. The spaces—including an executive boardroom, a moody cigar lounge, and the 'Thames' members' lounge—had to support optimal and unobtrusive guest flow. For a space built for discreet meetings and as a private sanctuary, the design had to be beautiful, but it absolutely had to function flawlessly.

The solution

Recognising that 'design is useless if it doesn't work,' we involved the property's operational manager from day one. Guest flow became the central pillar of our design. Building on a 'house style' we had already dialled in with the client from previous projects, we designed bespoke FF&E for each distinct space.

The ground floor was transformed into a moody cigar lounge, perfect for discreet meetings and recalibration. The first floor was divided into the timeless boardroom and the 'Thames Lounge.' For this space, we designed a custom art deco-inspired bar as a centrepiece, perfectly framing the iconic river views. The two-year journey resulted in a space where modern, understated luxury and operational excellence bring the building's incredible history to life.
